Design and technology is an essential learning area for developing critical thinking, creativity, and valuable life skills that extend beyond the classroom.

That’s why our Design & technology boxes are such a popular and beloved teaching resource!

Design & technology activities encourage teamwork and collaboration, critical thinking, problem solving, creativity, and innovation. And the most engaging way to teach these skills is through hands-on activities and learning.

Spanning areas such as food and cooking, clothing and textiles, building and construction, and technological advancements, the Design & technology boxes provide practical and tangible classroom learning experiences.

Through inquiry-based lessons, pupils will learn how to make decisions, troubleshoot issues, adjust their approaches, work with others, experiment with ideas, and apply mathematical and scientific knowledge and strategies to assigned projects under a variety of circumstances.

What skills will pupils master?

The Design & technology box contains six copies of every card (spanning seven projects in each learning area), allowing pupils to pick and choose their interests while developing the following skills:

  • Process – pupils will discover how to follow sequential and logical, step-by-step procedures. This encourages critical thinking and decision-making skills, and also encourages them to focus on methods, strategies, and problem-solving approaches rather than just the end result.
  • Production – pupils will learn how to create or generate a result from the application of their knowledge and skills in various contexts, including cooking meals, designing prototypes, completing experiments, and bringing concepts and ideas to life in tangible formats.
