Phonological Awareness - Auditory Discrimination, Rhyming and Alliteration: Book 1

This series of five comprehensive books covers all the basics for young pupils (from four years of age) but is also useful for older pupils who are struggling with phonics and spelling. It develops skills that fit into any phonics or spelling programme.

The Phonological Awareness Skills series is an excellent resource to help teachers address the learning outcomes of the National Curriculum, which states that pupils should ‘enjoy rhyming and rhythmic activities’ and 'apply phonic knowledge and skills as the route to decode words' in reading.
For the CfE, pupils should 'enjoy exploring and playing with the patterns and sounds of language' in listening, talking and reading. As well as 'explore sounds, letters and words, discovering how they work together' in reading.

Twelve skills are presented in developmental phases over the five books.

Book 1 focuses on Auditory Discrimination, Rhyming and Alliteration.

The skills are developed through fun, hands-on games and activities for classrooms, small groups and pair work. The games and activities are perfect for learning stations and station teaching. They can also be used to motivate young pupils needing extension.
All games, supporting worksheets, differentiation ideas, formative and summative assessments and answers are provided. Literature links and suggested websites for games are also included where applicable.

Each skill covered is also available to purchase individually as a digital unit in PDF format.
