Remove the confusion around phonological awareness and equip pupils with all the skills needed to conquer the world of words—spelling, reading and writing—with our must-have Phonological Awareness Skills series.
Book 3 of the series focuses on Phoneme Matching and Phoneme Isolation. Books 3 to 5 all have a heightened focus on the oral element in phonological awareness.
This series is an excellent resource to help teachers address the ‘Phonological and phonemic awareness’ learning outcome of the national curriculum, which states that pupils should be able to ‘hear and say the initial sound in words, can segment the sounds in simple words, link sounds to letters and begin to read words' in reading. And 'apply phonic knowledge and skills as the route to decode words' as well as ' respond speedily with the correct sound to graphemes for all phonemes'. For the CfE, pupils should 'enjoy exploring and playing with patterns and sounds of language' and ' explore sounds, letters and words, discovering how they work together'.
Twelve skills are presented in developmental order over the Phonological Awareness Skills series and Book 3 includes Phoneme Matching and Phoneme Isolation
The last three books all focus on skills relating to phoneme manipulation.
The skills are developed through fun, hands-on games and activities for whole-class sized groups, small group and pair work, with full instructions (including the actual words to say, if required).
The games and activities are perfect for learning stations and station teaching. They can also be used for early finishers to consolidate skills or to motivate young pupils needing extension. All game/activity resources, supporting worksheets, differentiation ideas, formative and summative assessments and answers are provided.
Each skill covered is also available to purchase individually as a digital unit in PDF format.
